TOKYO - Indonesia failed to pass men's singles at the Japan Open 2017. The last representative of men's singles, Tommy Sugiarto failed to reach the quarter-finals after surrendering in the hands of Lee Chong Wei.
Shown at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Thursday (21/9), Tommy actually managed to show tight resistance in the first game. However, this Malaysian player finish Tommy's resistance with a score of 22-20, 21-17.
This defeat made Indonesia unrepresentative in the men's singles sector of the Japanese Open superseries tournament. Two finalists of Korea Open 2017, Jonathan Christie and Anthony Ginting were stoped in first round.
Meanwhile, in men's doubles sector, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo cruised into the quarterfinals after beating the men's doubles host, Takuro Hockey/Yugo Kobayashi. In the quarterfinals, Marcus/Kevin will be facing a Danish players.
Marcus/Kevin had made no move in the second game. However, the third seed pebulu triumphed successfully ended the game with a 21-13, 11-21, 21-18 victory.
