JAKARTA - All toll road and Transjakarta operators are required not to reject consumers who make cash payments. Rejecting cash payments in rupiah means violating Law No.7/2011 concerning Currencies.

"I remind the toll road and Transjakarta operators should not refuse cash payments of rupiah. Rejecting cash payments in rupiah means violating Law No.7/2011 concerning Currencies. Rupiah currency is also the identity of the Republic of Indonesia as a legitimate payment instrument," said Chairman of Jakarta Citizen Forum (FAKTA), Azas Tigor Nainggolan on Saturday (14/10)

According to him, Article 33 of the Currency Law stipulates that it shall not refuse payment by rupiah cash. Furthermore, in the article also stipulated that if refused the payment of rupiah is a crime and sentenced to one year imprisonment and a fine of Rp200 million.

"So if the carrier is still imposing on October 31, 2017 will remove the cash payment counter and replace it into everything non-cash, it violates the Currency Act and can be convicted. Toll road operators still have to provide cash counter for rupiah at each toll payment gate," he said.

Similarly, Azas reminded if Transjakarta operators provide one counter in rupiah cash for Transjakarta users.

"Implicit services for Commuter Line (KRL) users who still provide cash payments for rupiah in single trip service. If Transjakarta does not immediately open a cash payment service rupiah means violated the Currency Law," he said.
