JAKARTA - Mount Agung activity in Bali suspected to increase. Indonesias Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) already raised the danger status of Mount Agung to highest level starting from Friday (22/9).
"Considering Mount Agungs latest development marked by higher level of fire and extraordinary increase in tremors we have decided to upgrade its status from Alert Level III to Watch or Level IV," said Head of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Kasbani, recently.
Under the new status the sterilized area is widened from a radius of six kilometers to 12 kilometers northward, northeastward, soitheastward and south-soithwestward.
"All of the areas must be emptied and all people in the areas must be evacuated starting from 8.30pm today. No tourist or public activity is allowed there," he said.
National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), said they already been in Bali to coordinate with the governor and district heads of Bali.
Head of data and information center and public relations BNPB, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho explained if data of BNPB itself shows the highest mountain on Bali island potential will erupt in the near.
"From all observations showed the potential for high eruption, although until now Mount Agung has not erupted," said Sutopo in his office on Monday (25/9).
From the incoming data, a mountain in 3031 meters below sea level (MDPL) continues to occur both shallow and deep volcanic earthquakes that reach 500 times a day.
In addition, satellite data show that there has been a rebound of the body of the mountain due to the blockage of rock material that closes the magma out to the surface.
"Proverbial the bottle given the energy, there will be inflation," explained Sutopo.
Sutopo said that the magma position itself is currently located at 3-5 km from the lip of the mountain. Where on two days ago the mountain had issued a white smoke and thin gray.
"It shows that the chances of the eruption are quite large, but it can not be ascertained when erupted," Sutopo said.
He added, national command center will soon be activated to accompany regional governments. Logistic aid supplies and equipment will soon be taken to evacuation centers. Coordination meetings between ministries concerned and other offices will immediately be carried out," he said.
"People to remain calm and not be provoked by misleading rumors. Mount Agung has not erupted yet. Monitoring however is being intensified," he said.
BNPB has recorded a total of 9,421 people have evacuated themselves in 50 locations in three districts following the increasing activity of the mountain.
