North Korea Held New Missile Test

PYONGYANG - North Korea has fired what appears to be a ballistic missile. Yonhap news agency reported, the missile was fired from Kusong region, north-west of the capital Pyongyang, North Korea.

This has carried out a series of missile tests this year, increasing tensions with the US weapons experts and government officials believe the North Korea has accomplished some technical progress with those tests.

Pyongyang has accelerated its nuclear and missile tests in recent years, despite international condemnation and UN sanctions. Two missile tests last month both failed, with the rockets exploding just minutes into flight. But despite poor relations North Korea recently said it would hold talks with the US "if the conditions were right".

The comments, by a senior North Korean diplomat, came after US President, Donald Trump said he would be "honoured" to meet the North's leader, Kim Jong-un.

Trump warned in an interview with Reuters in late April that a "major, major conflict" with the North was possible, but he would prefer a diplomatic outcome to the dispute over its nuclear and missile programs.

The launch is the first since a new liberal president took office in South Korea on Wednesday saying dialogue as well as pressure must be used to ease tensions on the Korean peninsula and stop the North's weapons pursuit.
