Soon, Deep Sea Water Technology Come to Indonesia

JAKARTA - For produce renewable energy and electrify remote islands in the country, Japan interest to develop a deep sea water project in Indonesia.

"Technology will be developed in Morotai Island (North Maluku) as one of 12 integrated fishery centers (SKPT)," Minister of Maritime and Fisheries, Susi Pudjiastuti said in Jakarta on Friday (9/12).

Earlier on Thursday, she said, Japan had offered the deep sea water technology during a meeting in Jakarta to which the ministry had responded positively. This result from SKPT program which launched to attract investment and optimize business potential in the region.

Director General of Sea Management, Bramantyo Satyamurti Poewardi explained more, Japan has offered to develop renewable energy to electrify small and remote islands in Indonesia The technology takes advantage of the temperature difference between the sun warmed surface water and cold deep water to generate electricity.

"The cold deep water could also be used for tuna fish farming," he said.

"This technology will be in grant and not a loan. It's a G to G (Government to Government) project. On December 20, Ambassador re-check for updates to the government, we set up earlier in the year update," he added.
