JAKARTA - Today, social media enlivened issues about Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Arcandra Tahar which already citizen of the United States (US) when appointed minister by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
Based on several posts on social media which quoted from reliable sources and finally the recognition of the minister, President Jokowi and several cabinet members have just realized that Arcandra take action against the law before and after sworn in as minister when cabinet reshuffle on July 27, 2016.
Arcandra are US citizens through the naturalization process in March 2012 with took Oath of Allegiance to the US Treasury. Because Indonesia does not recognize dual citizenship, legally he automatically loses status as an Indonesian citizen.
A month before became officially US citizen on February 2012, Arcandra make a Indonesia passport at the Consulate General in Houston, with a validity period 5 years. Suspected, that move because he already knows will get the status of a US citizen, so he as soon as make Indonesia passport for personal interests, although in later action was illegal.
After March 2012, he reportedly made four trips to Indonesia using a US passport. That's because legally, Indonesia passport should not be used and must be returned.
It is a problem is when he was asked to become minister of ESDM replaces Sudirman Said by President, and was sworn in on July 27, 2016. The return to Indonesia to the inauguration as a minister, according to the information, using the Indonesia passport, which was legally unauthorized use.
If it is true, the minister reasonably suspected of violating the Law 6/2011 on Immigration, Law 26/2006 on Citizenship and Law 39/2008 on the State Ministry.
If this issue properly, integrity Arcandra as president assistant a very strategic sector of the energy and mineral resources is highly questionable.
When confirmed Sindonews, First Vice Deputy of Presidential Staff Office, Yuni Rusdinar not dismiss but also not confirmed this news. According to him, in the near future Arcandra is likely to give an explanation about it.
"Oh sorry, I have not met (Arcandra Tahar, ed.) I was out of town. Later there may be an explanation was (about citizenship status Arcandra, ed)," Yuni told to Sindonews in Jakarta, Saturday (13/8).
When asked about the news that says that President Jokowi has called Arcandra exposures that, again Yuni chose not to speak. He asked to wait for an explanation directly from the individual.
"I'll just asked. Later there was a time when the explanation was given. But, I do not know about these questions," he said.
