Elimination of Sexual Violence Bill Could be Quick and Precise Evidence of Government Attitude

JAKARTA - National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) said, President Jokowi provide support to the discussion of the bill on the Elimination of Sexual Violence initiated by the institution and shall be proposed by parliament.
"The President gave support discussion of the bill on the Elimination of Sexual Violence," said Chairman of the National Commission for Women, Azriana after meeting with President Jokowi in Jakarta, Wednesday.
Azriana said, the draft bill was currently under finalization and is expected early July 2016 or after the Eid al-Fitr may be submitted to the Parliament and socialized.
"We demand the socialization of the bill can be done together with the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection," he said.
Azriana mention the idea of the necessity of the bill because of the lack of regulations that protect women.
"The bill was initiated because of Komnas Perempuan found sexual violence had grown to 15, including against children while current regulation is only a limited set such as rape and sexual abuse," he said.
Separately, Chairman of the Executive Board of Forum Communications Paranormal and Alternative Healing Indonesia (FKPPAI), M Hidayatullah Aziz also urged the government to realize this bill Elimination of Sexual Violence.
"This could be a quick and precise evidence of the government attitude," said Aziz.
He said, the application of law and harsh laws in emergency situations such as emergencies sexual violence that occurred today will be able to pose a deterrent effect.
"Initially it will lead to the pros and cons, but it is reasonable in any implementation of the policy. The government should remain firm," he said.
